You know you'll need to really impress us, but did you know we're equally keen to impress you too?

Application Advice

When you’re applying to Tesco, there’s really one basic rule. Don’t panic.

At no stage are we trying to trick you or trip you up. In fact, the whole process is designed for you to get to know us and us to get to know you. That way we can both make what’s – let’s face it – a pretty big decision. And make sure it’s the right one.

So, to help you get the most out of the process, here are a few tips:

Application form

Do try to save your form at regular intervals. That way you won’t lose any of it. Do print and read the final draft of your application before you submit it. Make sure your details are correct and that you're happy with your answers.

Don’t forget to keep a copy of the form as a reference.

Interview

Do feel free to ask everything you want to know.

Do think about what you’re really like. Try to think of examples of your strengths so you can bring them to life.

Don’tforget to do your research. It always pays to be knowledgeable. So use our website, trade magazines, the business press and industry bodies to find out as much as you can about Tesco, the issues facing our business and your chosen role.

Testing

Do get hold of some sample tests of verbal and numerical reasoning from your careers service. Or you can find relevant questions on occupational psychology websites.

Do try to answer every question honestly. Imagine yourself in that scenario – what would you do?

Do try to work through the test as quickly as possible. Your initial responses are usually the most accurate; don’t dwell on the answers.

Don’t try to guess or give random answers. These are usually picked up in scoring.

Please note only some office programmes will require you to take these tests as part of the selection process.

Work Sample in Store or Depot

Do spend time asking questions to find out if this programme would be right for you.

Do think about the differences in the working environment and what you would enjoy about it.

Assessment Centre

Don’t worry about the Assessment Centre. It’s designed to get to know you better, not to catch you out. To ease you in, you’ll have the chance to meet the rest of the group. You may as well relax and be yourself straight away, so that we can get to know the real you.
