Distribution is at the very heart of our business. Getting products from suppliers to the shelf in-store is vital to delivering our core purpose - ensuring that the customers' needs are met. To achieve this, we operate on a massive scale.
We have the largest distribution network in the world and are world leaders in logistics management. Our 26 UK depots have 11.5 million square foot of warehouse space - that's enough to fill Wembley Stadium ten times over. And every week we handle a whopping 43.7 million cases of produce. That's challenging in itself, but we're now trying to achieve the same results with a 50% reduction in carbon.
Everything we do here helps Tesco to maintain the most competitive prices and improve customer service, making sure our shopping list measures are met - Better for Customers, Simpler for Staff and Cheaper for Tesco, all key drivers for Distribution.
Distribution is not for the faint hearted. If you want a 9-5 job, this won't be for you. If, however, you thrive in a world where there is constant change, relish overcoming obstacles and have no aversion to working in a 24/7, 365-day operation then the Distribution Programme will offer you a wealth of opportunity and provide you with a chance to make big changes in how we operate.
Working within Distribution is a challenging, yet rewarding environment and you must be prepared to work different shifts and be flexible about where you work.
Full UK mobility is required for this programme - by applying to this programme you are confirming that you are fully mobile throughout the UK.
During your programme, you'll move around different areas within the distribution business to get an understanding of the whole operation.
You will see, and manage, how products are received into depot, picked and loaded for delivery to store and ultimately the customer. You'll also be involved in leading project work that improves the business processes and streamlines work.
Other aspects of the programme could include:
You will also spend a few weeks working in a local store to understand our store operation and how stores and distribution work together to deliver for customers. You'll work on the shop floor alongside our staff.
What's more, you'll be supported throughout your programme by your colleagues and peers. Mentoring sessions are held quarterly with your Stream Director, and workshops will be conducted to address your training needs. Integration with everyone from the depot floor up will be a key focus in setting you up for success.
Our aim is to develop our future business leaders. As Tesco expands as a business, so does our Distribution team, thus creating more and more opportunities within the UK as well as internationally.
After two years on the programme, you'll have the skills to work as a senior team manager in one of our distribution centres and the confidence to lead and direct a team of managers, or lead key projects in the distribution functions of the head office.
Following this, you may broaden your skills and knowledge and move across formats to work in stores, continue within distribution to become a Depot Manager, or develop to a senior manager in the office. There are endless opportunities available to further your career!
It's a challenging, fast paced, exciting role and we're looking for leaders who can work with people from all backgrounds and make things happen. You must have the ability to think on your feet and make quickly-calculated decisions. If this is what you're looking for, then this is the place for you.
You'll need to:
