You may have thought we'd offer a wide variety of graduate programmes, but did you imagine there'd be 17 of them to choose from?
Found at the heart of the business - distribution plays a vital part in delivering our core purpose - ensuring that the customers' needs are met.
We have the largest distribution network in the world and are world leaders in logistics management. We continually invest in new systems to make our distribution networks the best. In the UK alone we have 26 distribution centres including 3 non food depots and our global appeal has us operating in 14 countries.
Everything we do here helps Tesco to maintain the most competitive prices and improve customer service. Making sure our shopping list measures are met - Better for Customers, Simpler for Staff and Cheaper for Tesco, all a key driver for distribution.
Distribution is not for the faint hearted. If you want a 9-5 job this will not be for you. If you thrive in a world where there is constant change and obstacles to overcome and have no aversion to working in a 24/7 365 day operation than the distribution programme will offer you a wealth of opportunity and provide you with a chance to make big changes in how we operate.
Working within distribution is a challenging yet rewarding environment and you must be prepared to work different shifts and be flexible about where you work. Full UK mobility is required for this programme.
The distribution programme is two years long and is structured as follows:
Distribution familiarisation - you will move round the different areas within the distribution centre to get a basic understanding of the operation. You will see how products are received into depot, picked and loaded for delivery to store and ultimately the customer.
Store familiarisation - you will work in a local store to understand our store operation and how stores and distribution work together to deliver for customers. You will work on the shop floor alongside our staff.
Line Manager development - working in your training depot you will develop the technical and leadership skills to become a Line Manager. You will be given early responsibility to lead a team and run an area of the depot.
Senior Team development - the final part of your training will allow you to develop the skills to become a senior manager within the distribution centre. You will be given the responsibility of leading a group of Line Managers to achieve the targets for the operation.
Project Manager Role - at the end of the programme you will work on a head office project to improve the processes and ways of working in our distribution centres. This part of the programme will require you to move from your training depot and work between the office and other depots implementing change.
Not alone in the programme you will be supported throughout by your colleagues and peers. Mentoring sessions are held quarterly with your Stream Director, and workshops will be conducted to address your training needs. Integration with everyone from the depot floor up will be a key focus in setting you up for success.
Our aim is to develop future leaders in Distribution. As Tesco expands as a business so does our Distribution team thus creating more and more opportunities within the UK as well as internationally.
After two years on the programme you will have the skills to work as a senior team manager in one of our distribution centres and the confidence to lead and direct a team of managers. Following this you may broaden your skills and knowledge and move across formats to work in stores or continue within distribution to become a Depot Manager. There are endless opportunities available to further your career.
It's a challenging, fast paced, exciting role and we are looking for leaders who can work with people from all backgrounds and make things happen. You must have the ability to think on your feet and make quick calculated decisions. If this is what you're looking for this is the place for you.
