At Tesco we use Information Technology to improve the shopping experience for customers. That doesn’t mean we cram our stores with gadgets – although if they’re useful for customers, we might. In store it’s more about delivering effective systems so customers enjoy a smooth shopping trip, or developing complex systems that enable us to offer insurance, banking and lottery tickets at the till.

Successful graduates will develop inventive technologies that enhance, develop and strengthen every aspect of the business. You will work on projects that positively impact customer’s shopping experience and develop innovative systems that lead the way in retail technology.

This exciting programme will build and develop the skills gained at university and will grow visionary Technology Leaders of the future. You will gain exposure to different areas of Information Technology including the leading online grocery shopping site, Tesco.com, international business and the opportunity to visit our development site in India. This graduate scheme builds essential relationships and skills for the future and provides sound insight into how Tesco use technology to develop and improve business.

The Group Technology and Architecture team are responsible for setting Information Technology standards and application/technical architectures which deliver world class systems for the Tesco Group. You will work with colleagues to undertake research and development, design architectures and roadmaps which drive the business forward.

The Strategic Development team design and deliver new systems throughout the business. From commercial systems through to retail applications in the stores, you will get real insight into the positive impact Information Technology delivers for customers and the business.

Service Delivery supports internal customers, maintaining and developing systems that impact the way the business works. Regular contact with users in different business areas means your ability to communicate with people from all backgrounds will be equally important as other skills gained on the scheme and at university.

The Group Information Technology team design, develop and deploy the Operating Model. The Operating model delivers best practice capability to Tesco businesses around the world. You will become part of the team delivering the Operating Model ensuring operating cost efficiencies, country sales and margin improvements and faster in country skills development.

Naturally, we’ll give you access to all the training you need and you will gain an understanding of every aspect of our business. Spending time in our Stores getting to know the ins and outs of our retail operation is the kind of experience that will help you develop and support our critical business systems.

To make a success of your career in Information Technology at Tesco, you’ll need:

  • At least a 2:1 degree in any discipline (or expect to receive)
  • A levels should include maths or a science
  • 240 UCAS points at A Level/Scottish Highers or other equivalent qualifications (excluding General Studies)
  • Commercial awareness
  • Excellent problem solving ability
  • A keen interest in technology
  • International mobility
  • Excellent communication skills
