Corporate Marketing

Applications for the Corporate Marketing graduate programme are now closed.

In Marketing we act as the voice of our customer. That means we not only communicate with customers through eye-catching advertising campaigns, we also influence the rest of Tesco to meet customer needs.

There’s always plenty of marketing issues that need addressing: What does research tell us about how customers rate us? How do our sales compare with our competitors? How can we use our knowledge of customer buying trends to increase sales? And what does the business need to do differently to meet customers’ needs in the future?

We make sure that everything we do is based on what customers tell us, and that all our business areas are up-to-date on customer trends. We also ensure all our communication is clear, consistent and in line with brand values.

It’s an all-action, all-inclusive marketing operation, that’ll take you to the heart of our business – understanding our customers’ habits, needs, likes and dislikes. In short, you’ll live and breathe ‘Every Little Helps’ – and you’ll make sure everyone else in Tesco does too.

On the Corporate Marketing Programme you will have the opportunity to experience at least two of the following areas:

Our Market Research team carries out Qualitative and Quantitative research and uses its results to advise the rest of the business. You’ll be involved in a wide range of projects to understand our customers and their needs which will be instrumental in developing strategies that help us to remain a market leader.

Our Local and Stores Marketing has two aspects. The Local Marketing team develop local marketing campaigns to support our new store and store refurbishment programme. They work at a store level to communicate to our customers. The Stores Marketing team, on the other hand, help us to understand local customer needs to ensure our stores provide the best of Tesco locally and work closely with our Property and Retail teams.

Our Brand Marketing team creates a stir about Tesco. We use advertising, publishing, point of sale, special promotions and a host of other methods to strengthen the Tesco brand in the most appealing way. In this team you could help create new TV or newspaper adverts, support the production of the Tesco magazine, design point of sale material or plan a calendar of promotional events for our stores

The Clubcard and Tesco Freetime team looks after our 13 million Clubcard customers and more than two million members of our various other Tesco clubs. As part of this team you’ll make sure they all receive mailings with vouchers, coupons, regular information and offers.

Based at our offices in Cheshunt, you’ll enjoy an 18-month programme packed with hands-on experience and high calibre training. As well as experience at least 2 areas of Marketing you will have the opportunity to spend 2 months in one of our stores where you will get a real insight into how your decisions may affect the business. In the longer term, you’ll have a wide range of opportunities and career paths in Corporate Marketing, or the wider business, in which to develop and progress your career.

To make your mark in Marketing, you’ll need:

  • A 2:1 degree, preferably in business, marketing or market research.
  • Ideally you’ll have gained some exposure to a leading-edge marketing department, plus you’ll have the personality to fit in and the capacity to pick up the skills you’ll need quickly.
  • A mixture of sound analytical skills, creative thinking and innovation is also important.

In addition, you’ll need BBC or 280 UCAS points (or equivalent qualifications) and a full driving licence.
