At Tesco, Human Resources is known as Personnel. Our Personnel teams work to ensure managers across the business have world-class skills and tools to meet the needs of our people – and ultimately our customers. And when you have over 520,000 people around the world, there's plenty of scope for influencing the business. That's why we shape business processes around talent, performance management and learning.

What will I be doing?

During the programme you could have the opportunity to work on specialist projects such as Learning and Development, Reward or Resourcing. Alternatively, you could gain a wider experience through working in the Personnel Operations of a specific business area such as Commercial, Finance or the Support Office. Your appointment will depend on your skills and ability, combined with business requirements.

At the start of the programme, you’ll spend a short period of time in store to understand how the heart of our business operates. As well as understanding how the different areas of the store operate, you'll gain an insight into the Personnel Department. You'll see how people, policies and procedures work on a daily basis.

Naturally, we'll make sure that you get relevant training in specific skills, like shaping Personnel policy or writing training and development plans. We'll also help you to develop the skills you'll need, such as communication, report writing, analysis, decision-making, influencing, preparing and delivering presentations and running effective meetings.

Where could it take me?

At the end of the two year programme you will have all of the skills to become a Personnel Manager in Head Office, and in five years could be leading major projects, managing your own personnel team, or running an international development programme.

Today, we operate in 13 countries across the globe, have almost 520,000 employees and over 6,000 stores worldwide. As a graduate at Tesco, you'll be part of an exciting and evolving business which could offer you the opportunity to work anywhere in the world.
