Within Property we run 7 schemes (Site Research and Analysis and Development fall under their own headings).

Architects, designers, builders, engineers and many more experts in our Property Division work together to create stores that delight customers and staff alike. However, as important as our property assets are to us, we value our people even more, and believe in finding, training and retaining the best.

Property Design

Purpose of Department

Property Design focus on the layout internally and externally of our stores, focus on the look and feel to make the customer shopping experience better simpler and cheaper. You could be reviewing access to sites right through to what products flow best in the shopping trip. We link to many other departments within and external to Tesco and your week could involve visiting stores in construction to working with the formats team on new concepts. That would involve liaising with our main contractors, architects and quantity surveyors, as well as retail colleagues. You’ll be exposed to the latest thinking in format design, and will be expected to find solutions for a variety of challenges linked to different store formats or building shapes.

What does the graduate programme look like?

The programme will involve hands on experience planning stores, visiting sites and understanding the process.

We would also get graduates involved with any project work that could range from working with the format team on new initiatives to working cross functionally to help resolve business issues that planning and design as a team need to respond to.

Ideal candidate - At least a 2:1 degree in a design related course.

Property – Product Display and Space Management

Purpose of Department

To create and manage the implementation of merchandise plans that deliver a step change across a defined product area, making it better and simpler for customers to shop, simpler for stores to fill and stay in stock and simpler and cheaper for Tesco to implement.

What does the graduate programme look like?

As part of the programme you could be working within the core Merchandising function focusing on improving the layouts and visual appearance of specified product ranges in stores, working alongside suppliers and commercial teams to effectively launch new products. You could be involved in managing step change projects that will deliver sustainable change for Space, Range and Merchandising at both department and store level. You can expect to take ownership of a project, and manage stakeholders from both inside and outside of the business. So you’ll need to make sure the work passes all of the required Tesco approval processes on time and to budget.

You’ll be exposed to the latest systems in a world class retailer, and will be expected to find solutions for a variety of challenges within the business and its processes. Alternatively, you could refine your analytical skills, deciding how to invest our money wisely, to generate revenue and ensure our customers have a great shopping experience.

It’s a programme that offers a variety of experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, all focusing on improving our customers’ shopping experience.

Ideal candidate - At least a 2:1 degree in Retail Management or Business Management

Property – Engineering

Purpose of Department

To lead the design and delivery of engineering equipment required by Tesco and to provide technical support (specifically HVAC, Fridge, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Fire, Petrol, and Security).

What does the graduate programme look like?

During your time on the programme you will have the opportunity to be involved in a variety projects ranging from developing a process supporting whole life costing of new and old equipment. Evaluate and implement improved air sealing and energy saving within stores. Take part in a design project with a Tesco contractor to develop a CO2 refrigeration system, to measuring the impact of energy saving projects.

Ideal candidate - At least a 2:1 degree in an Engineering related course.

Property – Environmental Engineering

Purpose of Department

To lead the evaluation and development of low and zero carbon initiatives and sustainability solutions for installation. To manage the carbon plan and make balanced commercial decisions for the business.

What does the graduate programme look like?

During your time on the programme, you will have the opportunity to lead and be involved in projects ranging from investigation and development of renewable energy technologies to trialling of alternative, low carbon building materials. You will be engaging with internal and external stakeholders and will be managing technology and sustainability projects to help us meet our energy reduction and renewables targets.

Ideal candidate - At least a 2:1 degree in Environmental Engineering.

Property – Construction and Development

Purpose of Department

Development set up natural work teams to deliver each project, working with Contractors, Design, Quantity Surveyors, Architects, Mechanical Engineering and Planners. The key challenges are to acquire, build on time, within budget and standards and work with our communities and councils.

What does the graduate programme look like?

During your time on the programme you will have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects. These may include identifying and acquiring sites for new stores and developments, or obtaining planning permission.  Other areas could include initial concept through to finished building.

Your role will be hands on, dealing with main contractors, architects and quantity surveyors.  You will be expected to find solutions for a variety of challenges on site.

Ideal candidate - At least a 2:1 degree in a Property related course.
