What is Site Research?

Site Research is based in the Welwyn Garden City Head Office and is a core department within the Property area of Tesco. It is about understanding and analysing catchments and customers to make sure we open the right stores in the right locations. Join us and you will enjoy contact with a wide range of our business areas and you will be instrumental in developing store strategies that help us to remain a market leader.

What will I be doing?

In the Analysis & Development team you could be analysing data and influencing company decisions at the highest levels. Providing Insight into store performance and creating models and systems, you will help Site Research to decide where to build stores, or how to invest in our expansion.

The systems enable the teams to better understand stores and their customers ensuring the right investment advice is given to the business. The challenge is to use your judgment and knowledge to inform the way our business progresses.

In short, you will use your skills to influence real world business situations.

The graduate programme is 18 months and will analyse many areas of the business. There will also be a placement in a forecasting role and in a store where you will gain a real insight into how your decisions and work affect people and our business.

Training and support throughout the graduate programme is very comprehensive. You will have a mentor to guide you through the whole induction process and to answer any questions you may have from relocating after University to helping with analytical methods. There is also continued support from your manager, colleagues and our personnel team.

Where could it take me?

Site research analysis team is one of many and as your career develops there is an opportunity to move around and support other teams in the business. There is also the opportunity to move into an analytical role internationally.

Many previous Site Research graduates have gone to work for the Tesco global business, including Asia, America and Ireland. There are also fantastic opportunities here in the UK with previous Site Research graduates now being Directors of departments across Tesco.

What skills do I need?

For a role in Site Research Analysis, you will need:

• At least a 2:1 degree in a highly numerate degree (achieved or expected)
• Preferably an MSc, ideally in Maths, Operational Research or Statistics – although not essential
• Strong numerical and analytical skills
• The ability to communicate complex information
• Confidence in your own decisions
• A creative and innovative approach
