Our stores are where it all happens. If you thrive in an exciting and animated environment, can put the customer first and see yourself as a leader, the Store Management programme will suit you well.

Graduates will learn the skills needed to be a senior manager in any of our stores: Extra, Express, Homeplus, Metro and Superstore. The length of the programme varies from 12 to 24 months, dependent on the type of store you join. The ultimate goal is to reach Store Manager within 3 to 5 years. And the skills you learn will be transferable.

What will I be doing?

You'll be part of the store team from your first day, trusted to deliver our promise of Every Little Helps to every single customer. First off, a familiarisation programme will give you insight into aspects of the business. Then you'll move on to understanding what's expected of a Line Manager.

In no time at all, you'll be responsible for customer service and increased trade. You'll be leading teams, managing stock, launching new products and making sure standards stay high. Once you've got the hang of leading a team and meeting targets, you'll start to develop the leadership skills required for the Senior Manager role in store.

As you move on through the different levels of management, you'll be trained in different stores to gain experience. That's why we ask that you're able to move all over the country. In fact that's a condition of all Graduate Programmes.

Store Management progression

During your senior management training, you'll work on a project to solve a real business issue. This is a great opportunity to be noticed because it gives you exposure to people at all levels of the business.

Sponsored by your Store Director, you'll receive constant support through mentoring sessions and meetings run by experienced managers. Your Store Manager and Personnel Manager will be on hand every day. Graduate development days give you the opportunity to share experiences with your fellow graduates.

Where could it take me?

Within 12 months you could be managing one of our smaller stores or be part of the senior team in a larger store. Within three to five years, we want you to be managing a large store, responsible for a £multi-million business with hundreds of people working for you. We will give you all the support and structure you'll need to be successful. How fast it happens will depend on you.

Today, we operate in 14 countries across the globe, with over 5,380 stores worldwide. As a graduate at Tesco, you'll be part of an exciting, growing and transforming business and, as such, could have the opportunity to work anywhere in the world.
