Shops are at the heart of our business. If you thrive in a fast paced, customer focused environment and have aspirations to become a business leader of the future, Store Management could be for you.

Graduates joining the Store graduate programme will be equipped with all the skills you need to become a senior manager in any of our formats; Extra, Express, Homeplus, Metro and Superstore. The programme varies from 12 months to 2 years long depending on which format you are placed in. But the ultimate goal is a common one for all; to reach Store Manager within 3 to 5 years.

We offer two types of Store graduate programme in training locations across the UK and Ireland;

  1. Store Management
  2. Personnel Manager programme.

Candidates interested in the Personnel Manager programme should apply to the Store Management vacancy and in the assessment process will be asked where their interest lies.

What will I be doing?

From day one you will become part of a Store team learning to deliver the Every Little Helps shopping trip for our customers. The programme will start with a familiarisation programme to give you a real insight into different aspects of the business. You will then move onto understanding the role of the Line Manager.

In a short amount of time you will be responsible for delivering excellent customer service and increasing trade through leading teams to manage stock, launch new products and maintain shop floor standards. Once you have mastered leading a team and delivering targets on your department you will focus on developing the leadership skills required for the Senior Manager role within store.

As you progress through the different levels of management, you will be expected to train in different stores to gain experience. As such, a key criteria for the programme is that you are nationwide mobile. The more flexible you are, the greater the opportunities on offer to you.

During your senior management training, you will work on a project to solve a real business issue. This is a great opportunity to raise your profile and gives you lots of exposure through working with different people from all levels in the business.

Store Management progression

Sponsored by your Store Director, you will receive on-going support throughout the programme via a structured plan of mentoring sessions and meetings run by experienced managers. Your Store Manager and Personnel Manager will play a key part in your development and will be on hand to support on a daily basis. Centrally-run meetings, as well as graduate development days, give you the opportunity to experience share with your fellow graduate intake.

Where could it take me?

Within three to five years, we want you to be managing one of our stores; you would be responsible for delivering a multi-million pound business and hundreds of people working for you. We will give you all the support and structure you will need to be successful, however the rate of development and progression will depend on your own motivate and drive.

Today, we operate in 14 countries across the globe, employ over 470,000 employees and have some 4,300 stores worldwide. As a graduate at Tesco, you’ll be part of an exciting, growing and transforming business and as such could have the opportunity to work anywhere in the world.
