The Tesco.com programme is a fairly unique one, because it is focused on developing general management skills. This was fantastic as it enabled me to gain a very broad skill-set. I undertook three placements during the 12 months I was on the scheme, including Marketing, IT and Supply Chain.
The interview and assessment process was extremely extensive and was a mix of psychometric tests, interviews and a group assessment day. All of the key skills required to succeed at Tesco were tested, and it was very much a two-way process; to ensure Tesco was right for me and I was right for Tesco. It was refreshing to see the importance Tesco placed on graduate recruitment – one of the Dotcom directors attending every single assessment centre.
After less than 12 months, I've moved into a Digital Marketing Manager role within the Online Advertising team. The areas I look after deliver over £80 million of revenue a year. It's a fast-paced role with great exposure, and it enables me to work on the operational side of our business whilst delivering innovative new projects to step-change the way we work. So, I'd certainly say that the role has given me accountability and responsibility.
