The training has been first class and there's been a real emphasis on my personal development from day one. I'm currently a Deputy Store Manager (Senior Team) with five direct managerial reports. I run all of the shop's operations and the grounding I gained from my first year in various line manager roles really helps when it comes to my role now as a senior manager.
This is a great position for all the same reasons that made me want to join the stores programme. No two days are the same, it's fast paced, and it allows you to really make a difference to the customer experience. I'm currently aiming to stay in this role over the Christmas period to develop my management and operational experience further with a view to becoming a store manager by 2012.
My advice for candidates is to do your research and pick the right scheme. Also spend some time thinking about your experiences and achievements in life – and how you have shown qualities that will help you succeed at Tesco. Most importantly, be yourself and try to enjoy the experience.
