Programme
As I work in Distribution it's essential then that you see the end product and then realise that what you're doing that day influences a customer's shopping experience.
I knew the programme was very well structured and it allows you to go down different routes and experience different departments, more so at the start of the programme where you can get a taster of everything and then you can focus in on what you really want too do.
What I didn't expect was I was given so much responsibility early on. Once I'd actually trained up in an area I was given the Ok and the responsibility and told that's yours to manage. Surprises would also be the people that I work with. I mean you'd don't just get support from your mentor and people assigned to you but also from the wider team was very surprising.
At the moment I'd like to stay in Distribution but the option's always there to go into different areas. And, because Tesco is such a dynamic company there are so many departments I could go into. For instance if I wanted to go into store or spend more time in Head Office or go into marketing, I could. At the moment through I'd like to focus on Distribution and work towards Shift Manager. I think that's what's so great about the programme - at university you just did certain course work studying the subject and case studies - but nothing ever came out of them, you just got a grade. Here you make a suggestion and someone says go ahead and do it and that's what I find really satisfying. I can walk away from something and say I did that, I implemented that.
