Working for Tesco

You probably know we're a successful business but did you know our Corporate Responsibility commitments mean that we're a sustainable one too?

Working Environment

At Tesco we like to treat everyone the way we’d like to be treated ourselves. And that goes for our people as well as our customers. This means that we aim to give support to each other through sharing knowledge, working as one team, enjoying work and celebrating success.

So, Tesco is genuinely a friendly place to work. And, yes, we know that every company says that. But here, we back it up through our corporate values, summed up by Every Little Helps.

Every Little Helps runs through everything we do at Tesco. So, it’s not just about helping our customers to get the best prices for quality products. It’s also about giving our people the chance to make the most of their potential. And giving them the chance to build a rewarding career.

In fact, Every Little Helps makes promises to our people as well as our customers. And these promises are based on what our people told us they wanted from their jobs. There are four of them:

  • To be treated with respect
  • A manager who helps me
  • An interesting job
  • An opportunity to get on

We think these are quality ingredients for a great work environment. But we wanted it to apply to the way we work with each other, as well as the way we work with our customers. So we looked into how to make working together more enjoyable. And guess what? It wasn’t rocket science. In fact, we summed it up in three short phrases:

  • Share a smile
  • Show you care
  • Know your stuff

Sounds simple, doesn’t it? But what it basically means is that we’re going to go a little bit further – for our customers and our people.

So now you know what we do and why we do it, but how do we do it? At Tesco we aim to deliver our promises in three easy steps, making everything Better, Simpler and Cheaper:

  • Better – for our customers by helping them with their shopping experience which in turn means they want to keep coming back to us
  • Simpler – for our staff to make us work more efficiently and with less stress
  • Cheaper – for Tesco by keeping our customers loyal and our staff happy

These three principles run through everything we do at Tesco, and act as a censor check to ensure we are on track and delivering the right thing for our customers and staff.

So there you have it. Our working environment explained in one page. After all, why make things complicated?
