The Trading Law & Technical teams provide specialist legal and technical advice to support the business, particularly our stores and distribution centres. This includes the development of policies, rules and protocols as well as providing specialist legal and technical advice to the group. This is achieved through:

  • Providing advice and support to colleagues, stores and depots on legal and technical matters, including health and safety.
  • Monitoring standards and compliance with routines and identifying ways to improve them.
  • Defining the trading law and technical governance process.
  • Developing capability through communication, training and instructions that make Tesco a safe place to shop and work.
  • Managing the manufacturing auditing standard and process.
  • Conducting risk assessments and developing controls, procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Reacting to incidents in stores and depots and crisis managing/troubleshooting.
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure that equipment and procedures are safe and comply with the law.
  • Developing legal and technical policy for Tesco.

Our teams specialise in many areas including: Policy, Ethical Trading, Supply Chain Technology, Sensory testing, Micro biology, Environment/Packaging, and Chemistry.

Our Trading Law & Technical teams are based in our Cheshunt and Welwyn Garden City offices.

What will I be doing?

Your first week will be a welcome introduction to Tesco, familiarising yourself with your surroundings, and providing you with the information you need to get started at Tesco. You'll also have the opportunity to meet with your team, including your line manager and buddy. You'll then complete your store placement, giving you a greater understanding of how decisions made in Head Office affect our stores and, ultimately, our customers.

Once back in the office, you’ll be in the driving seat, supporting your manager with all the technical and legal matters that arise within your specialist area.

Where could it take me?

After working as a Graduate Trading Law & Technical Assistant and successfully completing the graduate scheme, you will work towards becoming a Technical Manager.
