You may have thought we'd offer a wide variety of graduate programmes, but did you imagine there'd be 17 of them to choose from?
Whilst we expect you to drive your own career choices and enjoy a high degree of responsibility and autonomy, this will be partnered with first class training and support within Tesco.com.
You will have a recent graduate as a buddy before you even start with us, who can help with all aspects of your new role and settling in. Your buddy will help you get to know people across the business, formally and more informally through the ample opportunities to socialize with other graduates and past Tesco.com graduates.
You will have high exposure to, and the opportunity to work with Directors from across Tesco.com. You will build a strong relationship with one Director in particular, who will be your mentor. This is an invaluable relationship, providing you with expert guidance and encouragement. When the scheme comes to and end, your mentor will help you decide the best opportunities for you to further grow your career.
Plus, you’ll have the full support and coaching of your Line Manager and HR throughout your scheme and beyond.
As part of your induction you’ll gain a brilliant insight into the wider Tesco business. A comprehensive training and development plan will also ensure you’re fully equipped to hit the ground running. You will experience technical training on excel, outlook and e-commerce skills, plus monthly leadership and soft-skills training days, from how to get the best from others, to presentation and impact skills and influencing stakeholders.
The innovative and entrepreneurial Tesco.com scheme creates a fast paced environment meaning there will be a wide range of opportunities available to you once you complete the programme here in the UK or internationally. Your first role after your graduate scheme will be a promotion into your first management position, with a salary to reflect this increased responsibility.
From your own personal journey, you will have insight into the right next step for you, from specialising in Marketing or Business Development to working on the IT platform before taking an International role. The possibilities are immense and the choice is ultimately yours. We are committed to making your career aspirations become reality and supporting you to have a long and successful career at Tesco.
Here is what past graduates have chosen to do:
Richard Lamb University of Bristol, Economics
After the Tesco.com graduate scheme, I spent 2 years in Direct Operations Development, firstly preparing for the launch of Tesco Direct, followed by then trying to improve processes. I moved into IT to experience a different business area and to motivate and manage a broad team of people. After getting up to speed with the technical side, I ran the day-to-day operations, making the IT section more customer focused and improving our overall vision. Recently, I have been involved in setting up a 24-hour support centre at the HSC in India, meaning stores and fulfilment centres will have an IT information service on which they can call at any time of the day or night.
My best advice for any graduate thinking of joining Tesco.com is to be confident enough to drive your career; there are lots of opportunities to get on, as long as you drive it yourself.
Georgina Webster Birmingham University, BA (Hons) Politics
As part my Tesco.com graduate scheme I delivered Business Continuity planning to protect and maintain an area of our business with annual sales of £177m+. This would mean in an emergency state we could continue to run this area of the business therefore protecting our reputation amongst our customers and our sales.
Now, as a Project Manager within IT I am running a programme of projects, linking the business and IT. One of my first projects was delivering a step change to the way IT, the core of our online businesses, work collaboratively to deliver all projects. The responsibility I have given at an early stage in my career is great, balancing working independently yet collaboratively with a number of teams.
Micky Armstrong The University of York, BA (Hons) English and Related Literature
After the Tesco.com graduate scheme I took on a role working with our dotcom only store, a new model store dedicated entirely to picking groceries for home delivery. Here I was responsible for a number of projects including mapping out the processes within the store to improve the productivity. With this invaluable experience I have now moved to work on Tesco Direct, working as a 'groups coach' supporting stores and rolling out projects across the business. You get variety whilst on the scheme, but also the opportunity to move around the business to progress your career after the scheme.
